Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Torchingale (“Torchingale”, “we”, “us” or “our”) processes information in connection with the mobile application Evraka (the “App”).

By downloading, accessing or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. No Account

The App has no account, sign-in or cloud sync. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location or any other directly identifying personal information.

2. Your Files, Photos and Recordings Stay on Your Device

To make your files searchable, the App reads the files in the places you give it access to. All of this processing happens on your device:

  • reading the text inside documents;
  • recognising text in photos and screenshots, and what those photos show (Apple Vision on iOS, Google ML Kit on-device models on Android);
  • if you turn on speech search, writing down what is said in videos and voice recordings with on-device speech recognition.

The resulting search index, transcripts, recent searches and settings are stored only in the App’s private storage on your device. The App does not collect, upload or share your file contents, file names, folder paths, search text, photos or audio, and Torchingale has no access to them.

The App only reads. It never changes, moves or deletes your files.

3. Network Use and Third-Party Services

Searching works offline. The App connects to the internet only for the following:

  • Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics: anonymous usage statistics (for example, which screens and features are used) and crash reports, including device model, operating system version, App version and anonymous identifiers. They never include file contents, file names, paths or search text, and are not used for advertising. You can turn them off at any time in Settings > “Share usage data”.
  • Speech models (only if you turn on speech search): on iOS, the App uses Apple’s on-device speech models, which iOS may download once through the system under Apple’s privacy policy. On Android, and on iOS when you choose to detect the language automatically, the App downloads an open-source speech model (Whisper, about 190 MB) once, over Wi-Fi, from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), and deletes it when you turn speech search off. As with any download, Hugging Face may see your device’s IP address. No audio or other data is sent.
  • Google ML Kit (Android): text and image recognition run entirely on your device, and your images and their text are not sent to Google. Under Google’s ML Kit terms, the ML Kit libraries may send Google technical metrics about how these features perform.

4. Permissions

  • Android, All files access: used only to read the files on your internal storage and SD cards so they can be searched. You can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
  • Android, notifications: used only to show reading progress (a count, never file names) while the App reads many files after you leave it. It is optional; reading continues without it.
  • iOS, folders: the App can only see the folders you add with the Files picker, plus its own folder in Files > On My iPhone > Evraka. You can remove a folder in the App under Sources. iCloud files that are not on your device are searched by name only; the App never downloads them by itself.
  • iOS, Photos: if you allow the App to search your photo library, your photos are read on the device in the same way and never leave it.

Where applicable law (including the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation) requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the App stable and improving it. You can object at any time with the “Share usage data” switch.

6. Data Retention

Everything the App creates on your device stays there until you rebuild the index in Settings, turn off speech search (which deletes all transcripts) or remove the App. Usage and crash data are retained by Google for the periods set out in its own policies.

7. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly process their personal data.

8. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. As we do not hold identifying information about you, requests concerning third-party services should be directed to the relevant provider. 9. Changes

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any amended version will be published within the App or on our website and takes effect upon publication.
